The Frank Willison Award Winner Announced

Alexandria, VA--The Frank Willison Award for Contributions to the Python Community was presented by O'Reilly & Associates and Foretec Seminar at the Python 10 Conference today.

The Frank Willison Award is given to a person judged to have made an outstanding contribution to the Python Community. The prize is a full pass for the Python 11 Conference.

The Frank Willison Award is an annual award dedicated to the memory of Frank Willison, O'Reillys editor-in-chief, whose own contributions to the Python Community will be deeply missed.

The winner of this year's Frank Willison Award, Andrew Kuchling, was selected by the PythonLabs group at Zope Corporation. "Besides being a prolific programmer who has contributed to many corners of the Python implementation (starting with his crypto toolkit), Andrew has done numerous writing projects related to Python," says Guido van Rossum, one of the Award's judges. "He's done interviews, columns, a series of HOWTOs, and the wildly successful 'What's new in Python 2.x' series (for Python 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2). Moreover, he helped to organize the topics guides on www.python.org, he maintains the Python HOWTOs on http://py-howto.sourceforge.net/, and he runs the Python bookstore at http://www.amk.ca/bookstore/."

"Contributions can encompass so much more than code," says Tim O'Reilly, "A successful software community requires time, dedication, communication, and education as well as elegant code. With the Frank Willison Award, we hoped to acknowledge all of those things."
