Over 600 Microsoft Press Titles Now Available on oreilly.com--O'Reilly Media Alert: New Ebook Initiatives Launched Today

Sebastopol, CA—You can now purchase Microsoft Press® and O'Reilly Media books and ebooks through a single online portal, oreilly.com. Indeed, just over 600 Microsoft Press titles are available from O'Reilly at microsoftpress.oreilly.com, including Windows® 7 Plain & Simple and Microsoft Office® Outlook 2007 Step by Step. Both those top titles along with nearly 200 additional Microsoft Press titles are now available as DRM-free ebooks from microsoftpress.oreilly.com as well.

Through the O'Reilly Media, Inc. and Microsoft Corp. strategic relationship—which was announced in September and took effect on November 30—O'Reilly is now the distributor of Microsoft Press titles in North America with a global roll out in a phased approach. Both O'Reilly and Microsoft will develop Microsoft Press titles. This collaboration also takes advantage of O'Reilly's groundbreaking digital publishing innovations and social media know-how to increase Microsoft Press' reach and develop its content for multiple multimedia channels.

"Microsoft Press has a rich, 25-year history in producing learning resources that are exceptionally well-respected in the tech community, and we're honored to carry on that tradition and to build on it," said O'Reilly's Microsoft Press associate publisher Steve Weiss. "You'll see all the great, existing books and series from the current Microsoft Press experts, plus some new things with an O'Reilly editorial touch to them, all published under the Microsoft Press brand."

Added Weiss, "O'Reilly will offer new DRM-free ebooks as new Microsoft Press titles are published. And we plan to work our way through their backlist and digitize titles through the year."

With the new alliance, Microsoft Press titles are immediately available more widely as ebooks and apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the Android Market. For example, Windows 7 Plain & Simple and Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Step by Step are available in all the channels listed below.

  • 190 Microsoft Press ebook bundles on oreilly.com (each of which includes an ePub, PDF, MOBI, and Android file).
  • 190 Microsoft Press apps submitted to the iTunes store for purchase on iPhones and iPod touches (about 175 of which are available now, and the rest pending approval; sort by release date to find the Microsoft Press titles).
  • 190 Microsoft Press Android app eBooks available now in the Android Market.
  • Over 400 Microsoft Press titles on Safari Books Online, many of which were just added in the last two weeks.
  • 10 Microsoft Press titles in the Amazon Kindle Store (on sale now).

Microsoft will continue to produce training content and will optimize efficiencies through O'Reilly's expertise in global manufacturing, distribution, sales, and marketing. This will fuel market potential for Microsoft Press and greater responsiveness to new opportunities while allowing customers to continue buying books through current online and retail channels.
