The Music of Maker Faire: Over 20 Bands & Musical Acts Scheduled to Perform at the Second Annual Austin Maker Faire
Austin, TX—Maker Faire recently announced the initial music lineup for the 2008 Austin Maker Faire on October 18th and 19th at the Travis County Expo Center in Austin, TX. The 20+ bands from Austin and beyond represent a wide range of musical tastes all within the DIY (Do It Yourself) realm. Throughout the weekend, Maker Faire attendees can expect to hear a plethora of musical sounds including vaudeville, pop, 80s funk, Latin rock, experimental electronica, gypsy punk, sideshow shanty tunes, reggae, orchestral pop, a circus punk marching band, and more.From acoustic to electric, from accordions to keyboards, and from fiddles to glockenspiels, the music of Maker Faire will be heard throughout the weekend. Whether it be a one-woman-band or 30 people playing in unison, the musicians will use everything at their disposal to win over the eyes and ears of adults and children alike, and sometimes that will mean using accordions, fiddles, even jugs.
The main stage will be a fully functional 1978 fire truck converted by Sustainable Waves with a 100-foot extension ladder. The truck will be a mobile sound system and a demonstration piece for several forms of alternative power including Biodiesel, solar and wind. The Boiler Bar and Theatre will also feature music along with exotic belly dancers and fire performers all while spewing forth 8-foot fire balls, and it's steam-powered. A smaller stage will also be present for some acoustic acts.
"We are so excited to have such talented and amazing musicians join in the fun of Maker Faire Austin," says Maker Faire Director Sherry Huss. "These acts really help round out this exciting event and go a long way to offer something for everyone."
Maker Faire will host an Evening Spectacular on Saturday from 6pm to 10pm, which will feature a performance by El Tule, along with Tesla coils, Austin Bike Zoo, Cyclecide and fire acts.
Maker Faire, the two-day family friendly event that celebrates arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the DIY mindset, will also include alternative energy vehicles, rockets, robotics, RoboGames, the life-sized Mousetrap, Eepy Bird Diet Coke & Mentos Fountains, fire acts, Tesla coils, a blacksmith village, art and crafts, Edible Austin's Food Pavilion and much more. It's for creative, resourceful folks who like to tinker and love to make things. We call them Makers.

Weekend and single-day tickets to the 2008 Austin Maker Faire on October 18th and 19th can be purchased in advance online at http://www.makerfairetickets.com or at the Austin Children's Museum and Whole Foods Market in Downtown Austin. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for students and $10 for youth (children 3 and under are free). Discounted tickets are available online until October 3rd and at Whole Foods and Austin Children's Museum until the night of October 17th. You can also purchase tickets on site the day of the event.
